The future of public safety will be hosted on 5G networks. That’s why Verizon is sponsoring incubation labs with the aim of finding innovative solutions for first responders that will prepare them for new challenges in a changing world.
Over the past few months, Mapware joined with four other leaders in big data processing and reality augmentation to develop, test, and optimize new solutions for public safety teams. No whitepapers, no hackathons. Just real solutions and real deployments.
Verizon’s 5G Labs connect universities, startups, and established companies to co-create 5G concepts, each designed to showcase visionary ideas and start them on a path to market.
For the 5G First Responder Lab, Verizon selected 15 innovative companies and divided them into three cohorts. Each team was given a three-month period to collaborate with Verizon and Responder Corp in their 5G DC Lab at Alley, a Washington DC-based laboratory established specifically for this initiative. Mapware has been active in the program since February 2019.
The overarching goal of the program is to develop technology that will empower first responders in the field. Mapware brought big data services and drone technology to the table to help meet this goal.
Mapware worked with four partners in Cohort 1 of the 5G First Responder Lab:
Participating in the 5G First Responder Lab is just one way Mapware is working to support emergency-response efforts. We also provide dedicated professional rapid response units during acute incidents like hurricanes and wildfires, helping our clients keep critical infrastructure operational.
“With Aerial Applications, we cut our field crew response times in half during a hurricane. When it matters most, that’s huge.” – Ted Smith, COMCAST
